Andrew Wilkins, MCP, RCC, MEd
Registered Clinical Counsellor #21810
As a BCACC Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #21810), I am here to support and guide you through life’s challenges, helping you cultivate resilience and discover your best self. Life can bring a range of difficulties, from personal struggles to complex relationships, and I’m committed to providing a safe, empathetic space where you can find healing and personal growth.
My mission is to empower you to overcome obstacles, enhance your mental well-being, and live a fulfilling life. By considering therapy, you’ve already taken a meaningful step toward becoming the person you aspire to be, and I’m here to support you on that journey.
I believe in tailoring my approach to each client’s unique identity, context, and goals. While my primary therapeutic orientation is rooted in evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I understand that a one-size-fits-all model doesn’t suit everyone. I therefore draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to create a well-rounded, effective treatment plan. I work with both individuals and couples, offering specialized support in premarital, marital, and relationship counselling.
Areas of Focus
I grew up in Birmingham in the UK and graduated from the University of Reading with a BA in Psychology and Sociology. After graduating from university, I trained at the Priory Clinic in London and I worked in several helping professions such as an assistant clinical psychologist for the National Health Service in Norfolk, UK.
I immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 2005 and worked as an educator at UBC, SFU, VCC as well as other schools and colleges, primarily assisting in their EAL (English as an Additional Language) programs. Through these experiences, I worked with many domestic and international students, immigrants and refugees in both Canada and Japan. I also graduated with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Adler University and in TESL at UBC.
Throughout my life, my career choices have been defined by my passion for empowering others to break down the personal and systemic barriers that impede them from fulfilling their aspirations. I wish to help individuals to cope with difficult life circumstances and develop skills to thrive in their everyday lives and relationships.
With regard to my lived experience, I am in a bicultural marriage and have two young daughters with my wife. I have had the privilege of being welcomed and invited to stay with a refugee community in Europe. I also faced job loss due to COVID-19 in 2021. Previous clients have told me that these shared experiences have helped me connect with them and assisted in their treatment.
In my free time, I like to play sports, especially tennis and badminton. I like camping and hiking in the summer. I read a lot and am in a book club (my favourite writers are David Mitchell and Haruki Murakami) and also play chess.
